Most VC rankings measure whose returns look good on paper. Founder's Choice measures something harder to fake: whether the founders who actually took your money would choose you again.
How it works:
- Elo, not a survey. Same system that ranks chess grandmasters. Founders pick head-to-head: "Which would you rather have as an investor?" No essays, no spin.
- You have to have taken the money. Rankings pull from Crunchbase-verified cap tables — only backed founders get a vote.
- Anonymous by design. Identities are verified, then hashed and unlinked. No vote traces back to a name.
- Size doesn't buy rank. Bigger checks, bigger portfolios — none of it moves the needle. It's "entirely about who founders see as most valuable."
- The bar is real. Only firms with 100+ head-to-head comparisons make the list.
Why it matters:
Anyone can claim "founder-first" on a website. This is the ranking where founders — anonymously, with nothing to gain — said who they'd pick again. Not what Khosla Ventures says about itself. The verdict of the people who took the check and lived with the partnership.
A ranking VCs can't buy, lobby, or spin their way onto.
